It's Ours!

It's Ours!

I’m returning from my near-3-week hiatus with a hurt feeling. You’ve heard the news, Malaysia once again uses another Indonesian cultural heritage in their tourism advertisement. It’s definitely an outrage. They’ve claimed Reog Ponorogo. They’ve claimed batik. They’ve claimed Angklung. And now they try to claim Pendet.

Preseason Football Bet

Not this year dude

Not this year dude

Where’s the football? Come on, just bring it on! I can’t wait any longer. I’m fired up! I personally declare this summer the best transfer season ever. It’s worth re-mentioning, ever! Can you name any summer with such huge amount of money flowing into the player market? You can’t! You just can’t!

How It’s Been

Not just a sport blog

Not a sport blog. Don't get it wrong.

What if we talk about Manohara? You know the one who generates more attention than Antasari Azhars murder case. The one who makes fortune by capitalizing people craze of sensation. The one who has her own group of supporters called Laskar Merah Putih. The one who….should I continue? Should I? I know you will say I shouldn’t. And I won’t. Her story will have its own proper place in our pop culture history. Read the rest of this entry »

A Day To Mourn

In Special Indonesia on July 18, 2009 at 2:36 am
Not again

It can't happen again

In a single normal day, if Fakhrul happens to text me, it usually shouldn’t be a big deal. But this morning it was different. It wasn’t just an ordinary message. It said, “I heard Marriot is bombed, MU game canceled”. For a moment, I couldn’t believe it. I was shocked. A part of me tried to deny it. Read the rest of this entry »

Bill Simmons has been fun to follow

ESPN's Bill Simmons has been fun to follow

Actually, I really want to write something more meaningful, whether it is sports, politics, social, or celebrity issues, or other things making newspaper headlines in the last seven days or so. Unfortunately, it’s been a remarkably quite week. After all the hype created by the election, things have been like the good old days when our great general Soeharto was still in charge. Election Note

Congratulation Mr. President!

Congratulation Mr. President!

I spent the day (like many of the country’s population) following the development of the presidential election since early in the morning. Keeping myself up-to-date with quick count, exit poll, and everything. Read the rest of this entry »

Do You Have a Blackberry?*

"Buy it 'cos it's Blackberry!"

"Buy it 'cos it's Blackberry!"

I don’t. Why should I? I don’t even need one. Well, even if I need email to be sent directly to my phone, I’ll opt for an E Series, I always love E71 and E62. Especially, the latter, it looks beautiful in black. And cheaper.

Football Breaks My Heart Once Again

In Sports on June 29, 2009 at 8:41 pm
Can it be the last?

Can't it be the last?

Forget the Confederation Cup. Enough. I’m still disappointed. US could have won it and shown the American public that Yankees can play some football, the world’s game, the beautiful game. Read the rest of this entry »

JK for President!

Now I get the idea

Now I get the idea

Up until 2 days ago, well last night actually, I didn’t put too much interest in the presidential election. Don’t say I don’t care. I care. I really do. I was just indifferent who will win it. As long it’s not someone named Megawati, it’s just fine with me.

The Joy of Rereading

Burung-burung Manyar

Take your time in reading. There's no need to rush.

My first encounter with Romo Mangun’s Burung-Burung Manyar (The Weaver Birds) came about 5 years ago when I was in senior high. I found the first chapter of the novel in my old brownish Bahasa Indonesia text book. I though I liked it. I liked his satirical heavily-javanese-influenced Bahasa. But poor me, I couldn’t find ‘the real’ novel in bookstores in my lovely hometown, Bukittinggi. So, I decided to forget the book for a while, while hoping that one day, I’d find it somewhere.

It’s Me, Badminton, and The 90’s

In Sports on June 23, 2009 at 3:11 am

The very first Indonesia Raya in the Olympic

The very first Indonesia Raya in the Olympic

A friend of mine, Fakhrul likes to talk about all the good things of the 90’s to the level that can make someone feel annoyed. I mean, deadly annoyed. If you happen to listen to him explaining about this stuff, you can only ask him to stop. His favorite parts? All the cartoons and kids movies broadcasted every Sunday. He will tell you that the kids of the 90’s were much happier than today’s kids. Debatable. Oh yeah, he loves the popular Tak-Tik Boom too. But hey, I won’t say I don’t miss the 90’s. I miss the music. I miss the life. I miss Soeharto. But most of all I miss the badminton.
